What is Through Life Management?
Through Life Management (TLM) is an executive philosophy that involves taking a coherent and holistic approach to managing the whole life costs and outlook across a project or programme’s life cycle.
The method, a central principle of financial and procurement best practice, brings together people, knowledge, processes and systems, and aims to simplify complex management systems and support arrangements, whilst encouraging better decision making, planning and involvement of stakeholders. The result? Cost effective and efficient delivery of your outputs and capability.
Through Life Management is a philosophy particularly well used in the Defence sector, and came out of the Smart Acquisition reforms that resulted from the Strategic Defence Review in 1998.
It is used to improve the success of key projects and programmes in the Ministry of Defence, and works by forcing teams to consider their long-term requirements, and as a result make better decisions that lead to improved delivery.
